Fractional Resurfacing for Acne Scars

Acne scars are a very common concern for many people. These scars are typically depressed into the skin rather than being elevated over the skin in the case of a surgical scar for example. They are due to abnormal healing of the skin and abnormal collagen formation after deep acne cysts. Fractional resurfacing is an outstanding laser-based treatment for acne scars because it can get rid of this abnormal collagen and stimulate the production of normal collagen which gives the skin a smooth appearance. The idea behind fractional technology is that instead of treating the entire surface of the skin, only a fraction of it is treated. This is very similar to drilling holes to aerate a lawn. Tiny holes are formed in the skin and the untreated surrounding areas help the skin heal. This makes the healing time significantly less than full resurfacing; typically less than one week. With a series of treatments outstanding results can be achieved.
